The Long Beach Convention Center expansion consists of a 136,000-square-foot expansion to an existing exhibit hall.  Renovations included de-tensioning, partial demolition and re-tensioning of an existing post-tensioned parking structure; seismic upgrade of existing steel-framed exhibit hall; installation of a new central plant; and renovation of existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems.  The new facility is steel-framed with concrete slabs on a metal deck, concrete reinforced dome slabs and post-tensioned concrete slabs.  The exterior wall is a combination of glass curtainwall, metal foam panels and plaster.

Work was completed while the convention center remained fully operational.  Fast track construction was utilized on the parking structure enabling it to be completed in time for the Toyota Grand Prix – five months early.
