The busy Wascana Parkway crosses over Ring Road, an essential traffic route. The replacement of the Wascana parkway overpass is the first major construction on the bridge since being built in 1971. Prior to the replacement, demolition of the existing bridge was completed.

The busy Wascana Parkway crosses over Ring Road, an essential traffic route. The replacement of the Wascana parkway overpass is the first major construction on the bridge since being built in 1971. Prior to the replacement, demolition of the existing bridge was completed.

The new bridge encompasses steel girders, precast panels and a cast-in-place deck, along with new approach and deck barriers. The project team fully regraded the approach to smoothly tie it into the new bridge elevations, ensuring a comfortable ride for travelers. Some areas of concrete had degraded over the lifetime of the bridge, so we installed a zinc corrosion protection system as an economical method to protect the structure from atmospheric corrosion.

The City prioritized minimizing disruption to the traveling public. To reduce impacts to daily commuters and pedestrians, we restricted bridge closures to nighttime work and over the course of one night knocked down the entire span and cleaned the area in time for morning traffic.

Now complete, the City of Regina and its residents have a quality overpass that will continue to serve the commuting public for decades to come.
