As a seasoned superintendent at Nordic PCL, Tony Fan is helping shape not only  the Honolulu skyline, but also the next generation of builders. Originally from Hong Kong, Tony moved to Hawaii at the age of one and grew up here as a first-generation American. His path to construction began after college, when he started building and installing furniture A turning point came when another contractor noticed his skills and offered him a position, prompting him to join a non-union outfit as a carpenter. Tony’s career flourished, eventually joining the Carpenter’s Union, working his way up to general foreman, later becoming a superintendent at Nordic PCL.

Over the course of his career, Tony has played a key role in numerous landmark projects. He was part of the Nordic team for the Uraku Tower and Alii Place projects, working as a finish carpenter. After spending 15 years with Mortenson Construction as a general foreman, Tony returned to Nordic in 2008 as an assistant superintendent, before its eventual merger with PCL.

However, Tony's story doesn’t end with construction management. He also took time off to work as a contract compliance monitor with Bowers & Kubota, overseeing the HART Farrington Highway Station Group to make sure contractor inspectors met the required standards.

Tony is the go-to resource for concrete and carpentry scopes and a trusted in-house expert on building envelope systems. Engaging Tony early in a project not only helps identify constructability concerns but also significantly reduces the potential for rework — directly elevating the quality and efficiency of project delivery.

Tony’s passion for construction is matched by his commitment to mentoring and developing talent. His responsibilities include spotting high-potential talent — both in the field and among project staff— and creating pathways for growth for those who demonstrate drive and potential. One of his proudest accomplishments has been mentoring team members like Tytan Timoteo who started as a project engineer and is now a successful superintendent under Tony's guidance.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys golfing — with the goal of shooting under par — and has a passion for building RC airplanes and drones, which he has used to capture aerial shots of construction sites.

With a keen eye for quality, a passion for mentorship, and a proven track record of elevating others, Tony continues to build more than just structures — he’s  laying the foundation of Nordic PCL’s future.
