“We’re always looking for what’s next in technology; I love that,” says Alex Ramirez when asked what keeps him passionate about his job. Alex is a 10-year PCL veteran who spends his days helping select the technologies that PCL uses on construction projects.
Growing up in Mexico, Alex always had an interest in computers. He took computer software classes in high school and university, but never dreamed that it would become such a big part of his career.
“It’s amazing to see how the tide has turned,” says Alex. “Three or four years ago I could never have imagined the revolution that would happen with construction technology.” “It’s not just about the cool factor. Clients don’t care about that,” adds Alex. “They want to know how technology can bring value to their project. Part of my job is to show them how we can make that happen.”
Alex says he looks forward to watching construction technology continue to grow and improve over the next 10 years, and that project teams will continue to use the best of the new software tools to anticipate and resolve the challenges that arise on construction sites.
“I think we do a good job of sharing what technology can do, and I’m proud to be part of a company that embraces technology and makes it a part of our culture. I see how it helps us empower our people to continue to come up with new and innovative ideas we can use to improve what we build for our clients.”
