Taber, Alberta (October 7, 2020) – PCL Construction is pleased to
announce the completion and opening of Federated Co-operatives Limited’s (FCL) new
Fertilizer Terminal located near Grassy Lake, Alberta.
The project consists of five buildings, a complex and state-of-the-art
system of fertilizer receiving, blending and shipping equipment, and a 2.5km
rail loop connected to the CP
Rail main line, large enough to host a unit train consisting of 110 rail cars.
The new terminal will warehouse, blend and distribute a full suite of
fertilizer products to locally owned Co-op
Agro Centres and their customers.
“I can honestly say it was fantastic working with the FCL team on
this project which has proven to be one of the most enjoyable I have worked on
in my PCL career,” said Rob Duerksen, PCL’s Canadian Agribusiness Manager. “The
professionalism displayed by the FCL team in collaboration with our Calgary
Civil & Canadian Agribusiness divisions was excellent throughout the build,
and our team is very proud to have reached substantial completion of the
facility, a key project milestone, two and half months ahead of schedule.”
“We made this investment understanding the important role the
fertilizer terminal will play in serving local co-ops and helping them meet the
needs of their members and customers,” said Ron Healey, FCL’s Vice-President of
Ag and Consumer Business. “We’ve appreciated the professional working
relationship we’ve had with PCL. They’ve been responsive to our needs and
ensured the project was completed on time and on budget, paying particular
attention to safety.”
There were zero lost-time and zero recordable incidents throughout
the 120,000 total worker hours on the project. PCL would like to thank the 22
local trades from Taber, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, along with the 12 Alberta
trades from Calgary and Edmonton, and two trades from Winnipeg, and our
equipment supplier from Minnestoa who all contributed to the success of this
FCL’s newest Fertilizer Terminal will be a main hub for fertilizer
distribution to the local area, which will benefit all Co-op
members in the region.
