Burnsville, MN
(February 26, 2018) – PCL Construction Services, Inc. proudly celebrates its 40th
anniversary in the Minneapolis regional market in 2018. For the last four
decades, PCL has continued to provide construction excellence by building some
of the most enduring and iconic projects in the Twin Cities.
In 1978, PCL was
awarded a series of downtown projects in Minneapolis and St. Paul that were of sufficient
size and duration that the company decided to embark on a permanent venture in
Minnesota. The projects were completed for one owner, Oxford Development,
who later became Brookfield Development. The projects included the World
Trade Center, Town Square and Meritor Tower in St. Paul; and City Center, Dain
Tower and Multifoods Tower in Minneapolis. With a strong business foundation,
PCL steadily expanded to other construction sectors, establishing relationships
across the Upper Midwest.
In 1990, PCL was
selected as construction manager for the 4.2 million square-foot Mall of
America in Bloomington, Minnesota on the site of the former Metropolitan
Stadium. The construction of the largest indoor retail and entertainment venue
at the time solidified PCL’s reputation in the Twin Cities and led directly to
over 150 subsequent projects inside and around the mall since its original
completion. Similarly, PCL began long-term associations with 3M, General Mills
and Mystic Lake Casino Hotel that propelled growth through more than twenty
years of consistent project awards.
In 2006, PCL secured its first project in Grand Forks,
North Dakota on the campus of the University of North Dakota. By 2012, PCL had
enough work underway in the Grand Forks area that a satellite office was
established to better serve clients in that location. PCL completed UND’s
School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2016. At $105 million, it is the
largest best-value project ever awarded in the state of North Dakota.
Other notable projects
include the Ameriprise Center Service Center in downtown Minneapolis, over 50
Rainforest Café restaurants nationwide, the new Mystic Center Hotel and Convention
Center in Prior Lake and the $229 million Silver Ramp now under construction at
the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
“We are very fortunate
to have grown our business in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area since the late 1970s,”
said Michael Headrick, vice president and district manager. “Our continued
success is a great accomplishment for our company and we are especially proud
to build where we live with our families. It’s an honor to serve the clients
and partners we call friends.”
PCL
ranked #19 on the list of 2017 Best Workplaces for Giving Back by the Great
Places to Work institute and Fortune magazine. The Minneapolis team
actively participates in local charitable events and programs including the
Mille Lacs Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource
Center, Second Harvest Heartland, NorthPoint Health & Wellness, Hockey Day
in Minnesota, the Minnesota Zoo and the United Way.
