DENVER, CO (July 13, 2015) – PCL Construction Services, Inc. in Denver is pleased to announce that the Mile High United Way Morgridge Center for Community Change received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification. The building was awarded LEED Gold certification while originally striving for a minimum of LEED Silver.

LEED, monitored by the US Green Building Council, is a green building certification program developed to recognize outstanding building strategies and practices that save money and resources throughout the life of a structure.

“Every day we do our best to build quality buildings and the United Way works just as hard making sure that nonprofits in our community are supported,” said Dave Espinosa, PCL project manager. “It’s a true honor to be recognized for our hard work on a building that will get so much use in the years to come by some of the most caring and dedicated people in the Denver Metro area.”

Located in the historic Curtis Park neighborhood, the Mile High United Way Headquarters was built with a goal of improving the lives of children, individuals, and families.

“Mile High United Way’s unites people, ideas, and resources to solve complex problems so that everyone in our community can thrive. But, we know that the environment also plays a part in healthy communities, so it was important to us to make sure that we did our part with pursuing LEED Gold certification for our new building,” said Christine Benero, president and CEO, Mile High United Way.

The design-build project consisted of three levels of above-grade and one level of below-grade parking, 6,000 square feet of leasable tenant space, and 2,000 square feet of available retail space on the first floor.

With the project team’s persistence, along with challenging the process, the project team was able to surpass the original goal of LEED Silver and obtain LEED Gold while maintaining the project’s cost and schedule.
