Ottawa – Buildings & Civil Construction

OTTAWA, ON (July 19, 2017) – Representatives of Helmets to Hardhats were on hand Wednesday morning at the PCL Ottawa district office to present a commendation plaque to PCL Construction. This commendation represents PCL’s support across Canada of the development of a partnership with the Helmet to Hardhats (H2H) program. This program assists Canadian Forces veterans in transitioning to available careers in the construction industry.

“PCL is proud to support the H2H program because we recognize the valuable contribution that members of the Canadian Forces have made to our country and can make to our industry,” said Kevin Skinner, vice president and district manager for PCL’s Ottawa operations. “We know how this program could help them and we know how these skilled and motivated employees can also benefit our organization.”

There is an increasing demand for skilled labour across the nation. This demand is not limited to the trades themselves but extends to leadership positions and specialty fields such as project management, accounting, estimating, purchasing, and administration that are integral to the building and construction industry. Regardless of military occupation, an individual may choose to pursue any field within the industry, and the H2H program will provide full training as required.

"We commend PCL for their efforts as a key corporate sponsor for this important organization designed to assist military Vets in securing great careers in the building and construction industry in Canada," said Brigadier-General (Ret'd) Gregory Matte, Executive Director for Helmets to Hardhats Canada.  “Not only has PCL made an important financial contribution, but they've committed to hiring Vets who are beginning their apprenticeship in the various trades, thereby contributing positively to workforce development in Canada.”

Helmets to Hardhats Canada was been incorporated in Canada as a Not for Profit Organization that is designed to provide an opportunity in Canada for anyone who has served (or is currently serving and looking to transition to a civilian career) in either the Regular or Reserve Force Components of the Canadian Forces.
