EDMONTON, Alberta (March 2, 2015) – The PCL family of companies is pleased to announce a $7.13 million donation to United Way agencies across North America for 2014. Twenty-eight PCL districts across North America held campaigns to support their local United Way agencies; efforts included everything from book donations and root beer sales to raffles and hallway golf tournaments.

“PCL employees want to make a difference in their communities, and partnering with the United Way has once again allowed us to make a major impact across North America,” said Paul Douglas, PCL president and CEO.
What impact does a $7.13 million fundraising campaign have on United Way agencies and the individuals who draw on their services? In real terms, this fundraising initiative was enough to provide
  • nearly 11,000 food hampers for families in need;
  • almost 1,300 children with healthy school lunches for a year;
  • more than 3,000 youth at risk with basic necessities;
  • more than 5,500 children and youth the opportunity to attend a summer program;
  • support to 773 families in need of support in disaster or emergency, and
  • funding to operate a distress line for 595, twenty-four-hour days.
Carmen Palamarchuk, communications specialist for Edmonton Buildings, volunteered with PCL’s Capital Region campaign and said, “Seeing our PCL family come together for such an important cause year after year is truly inspiring. It’s an immense feeling of pride for all of us when we see the final tally.”

Dr. Jacline Nyman, president and CEO, United Way Centraide Canada, said, "As a national movement, we are dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians in over 100 local communities across Canada. Our ability to drive change locally, regionally, and nationally is possible only because of the tremendous support from donors and partners just like PCL. The generous support of PCL helps people move from poverty to possibility, helps kids be all they can be, and builds stronger and healthier communities. The PCL culture to give where they live, and helping to support the most vulnerable in our population, is truly appreciated. Thank you PCL and PCL employees - you are making a real difference with your support to United Way - Centraide."
