Edmonton, AB (March 9, 2016) – The PCL family of companies is proud to announce it has been recognized with two Canadian Construction Association Awards in response to continued dedication in the fields of innovation and international business.

PCL received the 2015 CCA Excellence in Innovation Award, given for the practice of replacing traditional heating and hoarding with ice-fishing tents and propane heaters, thus saving time and money at the Heartland Substation project in Gibbons, Alberta. Overall cost savings using the tent plan as opposed to traditional heating and hoarding was $415 per pile, or $166,180 with over 85 per cent of the savings having come from heating. PCL also won the Excellence in Innovation award in 2014 for a method of pressure-testing concrete formwork, and in 2012 for the PCL engineered industrial module lift frame.

PCL was also a co-winner of the 2015 CCA International Business Award. The award recognizes PCL’s geographic diversification over the years, which has provided opportunities for growth and a degree of protection in the cyclical construction industry. Further, we were recognized for our international recruiting practices as well as our global procurement strategies, which benefit our clients on a multitude of projects at home and abroad.

PCL’s Dave Filipchuk, Deputy CEO, accepted the awards at the CCA annual conference in New Orleans, LA. “Being recognized by the CCA is always a tremendous honor,” said Filipchuk. “At PCL, we strive to excel in our industry and to make a difference in the communities where we live and work. These two awards are proof of our commitment to providing cost effective solutions for our partners, delivering high quality work, and maintaining a healthy construction industry.”

Representing more than 20,000 members, the Canadian Construction Association is the national voice of the construction industry in Canada. The CCA’s National Awards Program recognizes the important contributions of individuals, organizations and projects that promote and enhance the Canadian construction industry.
