Edmonton, AB (September 11, 2019) – PCL Construction is proud to have been named a finalist in both the Large Private Sector, and the Canadian CIO of the Year categories for the upcoming 2019 Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) Ingenious Awards.

In the Large Private Sector category, the following PCL applications have been named finalists:

Hazard Inspection App: Eliminating Job Site Hazards with Artificial Intelligence

  • The new mobile inspection app blends machine learning with safety standards to produce a new and Lean way of conducting inspections in the field. Simply by taking photos of hazards and providing descriptions, the application predicts the category, type, and risk of hazard.

Building Smarter with the Job Site Insights™ App

  • An IoT-based smart construction platform built on Microsoft Azure, that enables Lean construction, reducing costly rework and warranty claims, improving build quality, conserving energy, increasing productivity and safety, and reducing PCL’s carbon footprint.

In the ITAC Canadian CIO of the Year category, Mark Bryant is among five named as finalists. “I’m extremely honored to be included in this group of CIO’s,” said Bryant. “All have made extraordinary contributions to technology in our country’s private and public sectors. I of course have to thank all of the PCL team members who have contributed to the success of these applications, they are the ones who truly have turned these ideas into reality.”

These awards were created as a way to recognize Canadian talent and initiatives designed to improve performance, introduce new services, solve programs, and grow businesses through the use of technology. The winners will be announced November 27 at the ITAC Ingenious Awards Gala in Toronto.
