ORLANDO, FL (August 6, 2015) – PCL Construction is pleased to announce that Billy Mattheson, project manager, was awarded the Governor’s Veterans Service Award because of his involvement with Building Homes for Heroes®. The nonprofit organization builds and modifies homes, and gifts them mortgage-free to disabled veterans and their families.
Florida’s Governor, Rick Scott, highlighted $1 million included in the “Keep Florida Working” budget for Building Homes for Heroes that will allow the organization to build a record number of homes for veterans in Florida this year. Governor Scott awarded 58 veterans with the Governor’s Veterans Service Award for their service to Florida and the nation. Among the veterans was PCL’s own Billy Mattheson, a project manager in Orlando. PCL has supported Building Homes for Heroes since 2011 under the leadership of PCL’s Tyler Mark and Andy Pujol, founder and CEO of the organization.

“PCL has always been supportive of my military service and has stood behind my involvement with Building Homes for Heroes,” said Billy Mattheson, PCL’s project manager. “The selfless commitment that volunteers, including many local trade contractors,  give to this organization provides a sense of accomplishment and reward that is unmatched.”

Building Homes for Heroes is on track to construct and remodel nearly 42 homes in Florida and 55 homes throughout the US for veterans and their families in 2015. The organization works with nearly 300 Florida contractors and vendors in the Orlando and Tampa areas. PCL plays a major role in not only building homes, but also rebuilding the lives of our nation’s heroes.
“There is no better cause than taking care of our armed forces and the service men and women who protect our freedom,” said Tyler Mark, superintendent. “PCL employees have donated time and supplies to help construct homes for our veterans.”
