Edmonton, Alberta (March 25, 2015) – The PCL family of companies is proud to announce it has been recognized with two Canadian Construction Association Awards in response to continued dedication in the fields of innovation and the environment.

The 2014 CCA Excellence in Innovation Award was given for a method of pressure testing on concrete formwork developed by PCL’s Calgary district on the Airport Trail Tunnel project. This innovation allows staff to monitor pressures and communicate data to the pouring crew and record data for quality-control purposes, all in real time while optimizing the pour rate to help achieve a critical schedule. Maintaining proper formwork pressure is important because it increases on-site safety and accuracy of material specifications and tolerances, and it eliminates the need for costly rework or repairs.
PCL also won the 2014 CCA Environmental Achievement Award  for the Wood Innovation and Design Centre (WIDC), built in Prince George, British Columbia by PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. The six-story WIDC, incorporates a structural system that uses a variety of sustainable, locally manufactured wood products. The project recently won a Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s award for Innovation in Architecture, and it was named one of the world’s Top 10 Big Projects by the architectural and design magazine Azure.
PCL’s David Filipchuk, President & COO, Canadian & Australian Operations accepted the awards. “This recognition from the CCA is a tremendous honor,” said Filipchuk. “At PCL, we strive to excel in our industry and make a difference in the communities where we live and work. These two awards are proof of our commitment to safety, quality of work, and the environment.”
Representing more than 20,000 members, the Canadian Construction Association is the national voice of the construction industry in Canada. The CCA’s National Awards Program recognizes the important contributions of individuals, organizations and projects that promote and enhance the Canadian construction industry.
