Edmonton, Alberta (January 14, 2019) – PCL Construction’s chief information
officer, Mark Bryant, has been recognized as one of Engineering News-Record’s
Top 25 Newsmakers for 2018. The annual
Newsmakers list is determined by a committee of ENR editors who select industry professionals who have gone above
and beyond to improve the construction industry and the public.
Mark’s passion for Smart Construction led him to bring high
technology to the jobsite, and to create an industry-leading platform that
allows PCL Construction to read vast amounts of sensor data and improve project
efficiency.
“It’s an honor to be named an ENR
Top 25 Newsmaker,” said Bryant. “I would be remiss, though, not to give a huge
shout-out to our PCL team that has worked so hard to make this smart
construction vision a reality. I’m looking forward to even more success with
our platform in the future.”
Job Site Insights™ (JSI) is PCL’s
Smart Construction platform of the future. Construction sites are instrumented
with various IoT sensors throughout the life span of a project and the data
collected is continuously streamed to the JSI cloud platform built on Microsoft
Azure using the features and capabilities of Azure Digital Twins. JSI
visualizes the construction site, mapping the devices to spaces, equipment,
assets, and people, and giving project staff a single pane-of-glass view of the
jobsite in digital format. Through the use of artificial intelligence and machine
learning technologies, JSI analyzes the data and provides real-time actionable
insights to construction site staff, partners, and owners. Job Site Insights™ is making
construction
smarter by enabling Lean construction, reducing costly rework and warranty
claims, improving build quality, conserving energy, increasing productivity and
safety, and reducing PCL’s carbon footprint.
The awardees will be recognized in
ENR’s January 21 issue and at the magazine’s Award of Excellence
event in New York City on March 21.
