This project consisted of fitting out the mezzanine level of the Calgary City Centre with a 575-square-meter business facility, and a 500-square-meter fitness facility. The business facility consists of two breakout areas, a prep kitchen for catering, washrooms, and two conference rooms. The larger conference room is also dividable into two separate spaces by use of a ceiling-mounted motorized partition. The fitness facility includes a full-service gym with dedicated areas for weight and cardio training, as well as independent studios for stationary cycling and yoga. The fitness facility also includes change rooms with lockers and showers. Both areas are fully operational and are accessible to building tenants only.
The client had negotiated this work with PCL as they needed to fit out the podium level to meet the terms of their tenant lease agreements. The spaces also needed to be completed to a high quality to match the finishes of an AAA commercial building. The client, consultant, and the PCL Special Projects division were able to work together from concept to completion to provide a space that meets the needs of the client and the vision of the consultant. This project was challenging, as it had to be coordinated between the PCL project teams completing the base building and the fitout. These challenges were mitigated by working with base building trades on the fitout scope, which removed the risk of scope gaps, and by constant communication between the two project teams. Despite the extensive coordination requirements for this project, the business and fitness facilities were both completed in time for the building's grand opening.
