Set on a bluff above The Oregon Coast, the Chinook Winds Gaming and Convention Center offers a full range of entertainment and a getaway in the heart of the region’s most beautiful setting. The Oregon Coast is very beautiful and, at times, very wild.
The remote location, periodically inclement coastal weather marked by torrential rains and winds over 110 miles per hour, and a tight construction schedule were among the obstacles to overcome. In addition, an aesthetic challenge was posed. The facility needed to reflect the values and culture of the Siletz Tribe. The PCL team worked to address this goal in the atrium area, where a two-story waterfall was installed in a setting of rockeries and native plantings. Such a dramatic construction was designed to reflect the native fishing grounds of the Siletz Tribe. Liberal use of indigenous art and natural materials completed the scene.
Despite the design intricacies and environmental obstacles, this project was delivered on schedule and within budget in less than eight months.
