This 36,000-square-foot practice facility is an addition to the Coors Events/Conference Center (CECC) at the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus. With three levels, two full-size practice courts, locker rooms, office and administrative areas, and extensive storage, this project serves to consolidate and expand the administrative and training functions for on-campus basketball and volleyball. It is certified LEED® Platinum and features an energy-efficient evaporative cooling system to condition the building.
The CECC had to remain operational throughout construction to accommodate various events and games, many of which were televised. Additionally, the footprint of the new addition required extensive utilities relocations. To minimize disruption during construction, PCL suggested the new power feed run underground instead of overhead to expedite the transfer of power to the CECC. The team also provided a temporary source of fire and domestic water, and proposed an alternate route for the steam supply that significantly minimized outage times.
