PCL provided construction management services for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) on the replacement of the four-storey envelope of their Ontario Regional Office. In a previous fit-up of the Markham building, PCL discovered that the exterior skin leaked on rainy days, and suggested a cladding renewal. The project involved the removal of existing curtain wall panels and blocks as well as the installation of new panels, sliding, and curtain wall. Additional soft landscaping also took place around the building.
The project's taking place in an occupied building meant the project team collaborated closely with CUPE to minimize the impact of construction on employees. All involved parties received a weekly schedule and monthly reports, which included sequenced room schedules as well as "move-out" and "move-in" days for relocated tenants. Owing to the project team’s organized and rigorous action planning, the project was completed within the timeframe.
