PCL added a 290,000-square-foot casino and convention center complex to this existing 24-story hotel. The casino features a 100,000-square-foot, two-level gaming area with a large atrium bar and cascading waterfall. The PCL team self-performed construction of the concrete structure and the two-level underground parkade, completing the building exterior with architectural precast panels and curtain wall. A new pedestrian bridge was also added to connect the new casino to the existing parkade.
During construction, the scope of work increased by 20 percent due to a new owner’s design changes and new smoking regulations. A smoking ban in all indoor public spaces meant several smoking rooms had to be reconfigured as six exterior versions.
PCL performed the complete renovation of the hotel’s interior and exterior under another contact.
