PCL’s Special Projects team was approached by the owner of Dufry Shops to construct a second store in the Domestic/International Departures Lounge in the Edmonton International Airport. After completing construction on a different store in the airport earlier in the year, the PCL team was pleased to work with this client again.
The 1,600-square-foot store incorporated high-end millwork fixtures, intricate wood and drywall ceilings, and a patterned granite floor, most of which were manufactured outside of Canada. The store’s location in the Domestic/International Departures lounge (secure operations side) required the project team to follow strict operations and work plan guidelines, ones developed by PCL during the construction of the New Air Terminal Building Expansion earlier.
To meet the project’s tight timeline, PCL coordinated the delivery of owner-supplied fixtures and high-end finishes to ensure schedule milestones were met. The project team remained in constant communication with the out-of-town architect and owner reviewing site progress and finish details, and making timely decisions. These strong communication processes and working relationships allowed the project to come in on time and under budget.
