The Evanston Towne Centre/Plaza project consisted of the construction of three Commercial Retail Unit (CRU) buildings in the new community of Evanston in northwest Calgary. Comprising 17 future commercial, retail, or restaurant spaces, the new buildings complement the existing commercial development in the area. Two of the new CRU buildings are constructed on a four-acre greenfield site, while the third is within the existing boundaries of Evanston Towne Centre.
The client, Qualico Commercial, challenged the project team with compressing a ten-month construction schedule into an eight-month timeline in order to meet the fit-up requirements of tenants moving into the CRU spaces. Working through challenging spring weather and ground conditions, the project team was able to deliver these tenant spaces on schedule, ensuring that the client’s requirements were satisfied. Working alongside tenant contractors during construction allowed underground services for tenants to be in place before the team began their interior construction fit-ups, accelerating their construction timelines and reducing rework within a brand new building.
