The Teaching, Research and Wellness (TRW) Building is an eight-story, cast-in-place concrete structure with three levels of underground parking. The total building area is approximately 27,400 square meters (294,931 sq. ft.), and was constructed as a shelled building. (PCL completed the interior spaces under a separate contract.) The client wanted to maximize circulation efficiencies at the crowded university campus and take advantage of breathtaking Rocky Mountains views. PCL assisted in the planning and constructability of the project, resulting in a very efficient building connected via two-level link to the Health Research Innovation Centre Laboratory Building.
The TRW Building offers clinical and office space for a wide range of medical and research programs, as part of the broader Health Research Innovation Centre (HRIC) project. The HRIC provides new research laboratory and clinical facilities, functionally organized to provide horizontal and vertical integration of medical research and clinical services. The development of these facilities supports the concept of “Bench to Bedside” medical research.
