Agribusiness is a growing market for PCL Construction Management Inc., and a noteworthy example is a completed upgrade to the existing Louis Dreyfus Company (purchased by Parrish & Heimbecker in 2019) grain elevator, located near Rycroft, Alberta. This facility receives grain by truck and loads it onto rail cars. The existing rail-loading system was unable to keep up with current demand, and PCL worked with Louis Dreyfus to install a new rail-loading system with an increased load-out capacity, expedited by a new bulk weigh scale and enclosed belt conveyor.
The project scope included removing the existing bulk weigh scale and rail load-out conveyor and spout. The team then installed a new supporting steel tower and conveyor bridge as well as the new enclosed conveyor, bulk weigh scale and rail load-out spot. The upgrade involved removing existing structural steel and procuring and installing new steel, installing electrical and mechanical equipment, and fabricating and installing all necessary spouting and gating.
This project was completed on time and on budget while the grain terminal remained in operation.
