The fire remediation of the Mount Royal Hotel included the stabilization, abatement, demolition, and structural upgrades to this popular and historic tourist destination in Banff. After the building was safely abated, PCL began rebuilding the interior space, which now offers 133 new guest rooms, a revitalized main lobby, two conference rooms, and a revamped rooftop lounge and mountain-view hot tub.
After a fire damaged the top floor of the Mount Royal Hotel, PCL was quickly on-site securing the town’s popular tourist destination for insurance assessments. Within days, the project team had begun remediation of the building and, because of the tight timeline, found itself balancing the requirements of an emergency construction scenario with standard construction processes. To move forward with the remediation, the project team worked closely with the design team to ensure constructability and provide value engineering, which reduced the potential for delays, and ensured the project team met the client’s reopening date of July 1, 2018.
This collaborative approach between the project team, the design team, and the client contributed to the overall success of this project.
