The Science and Technology Wing Expansion project at Mount Royal University is a three-level building with a fourth-floor mechanical penthouse. Connecting to the northeast corner of the existing Lincoln Park Campus building, this expansion includes lab space on the lower two levels and faculty office space on the third. The existing Science and Technology wing remained fully operational during the expansion.
The exterior walls are predominantly brick, with punched windows and preformed metal cladding. Interior wall construction uses concrete block, drywall, and acid-resistant finishes. The wet and dry labs contain fume hoods, lab casework, gas distribution, and related ventilation-management controls. PCL’s preconstruction planning, value management, and constructability services before design completion led to a design maximized for student benefit. Building Information Modeling (BIM) was used for clash detection and efficiency gains in mechanical, electrical, and other building systems. This project achieved LEED Silver designation.
