This 250,000-square-foot luxury resort hosts 88 condominium units and is combined with a variety of other amenities to serve resort guests and skiers. Guest amenities include an aquatics and spa center, a fitness facility, restaurants, a full-service kitchen, a two-lane bowling alley, media rooms, locker rooms, underground parking, and two ballrooms. The resort, located at the Peak 8 base of the Breckenridge Mountain Resort, is the skier exiting point on the village gondola, and contains a food court and après-ski bar to enhance the skier experience.
The resort was built 10,000 feet above sea level with long, harsh winter conditions. During construction, PCL focused on completing weather-dependent activities, and created detailed plans that allowed work to be completed throughout the inclement weather.
The client set out to provide a luxury resort with direct access to four ski lifts, both within budget and on a very tight schedule. Throughout preconstruction, PCL’s review of the plans and construction methods produced value-engineering ideas totaling $13 million. However, PCL did not stop after the plan was executed, instead continuing to propose cost-saving ideas during construction to the tune of an additional $500,000 in savings.
