This project is located on the west side of the Orlando Regional Medical Center campus. The work consisted primarily of new underground utilities, roadways, and streetscapes. The project was phased to maintain access to businesses along the streets affected by the construction. The phasing led to a schedule where almost all activities were on the critical path. The team used Building Information Modeling and careful coordination to find ways to improve upon the designer’s schedule estimate. The schedule was consequently reduced by one-third, and the team employed some innovative solutions to minimize impact on this busy hospital campus.
One of the primary challenges with this project was the need for a proactive communications plan that would limit disruption on the streets leading to critical hospital entrances. The PCL team worked successfully with the client to keep access open at all times and minimize impact to hospital operations.
