PCL provided construction management services for Rogers on its new 8,300-square-foot Intelligent Capacity Centre in Mississauga. The project involved construction of the steel frame, envelope, and interior finishes. Interior work included the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment and commissioning, and that of IT equipment racks. The Intelligent Capacity Centre is part of Rogers’ business-to-business program, set up to provide rapid deployment of capacity where and when Rogers requires it most.
The centre was built using modular design and fabrication. Modules, some weighing upwards of 65,000 pounds, were constructed off-site at PCL Agile—our modular construction facility. Transportation of these bulky pieces to the site for final joining and commissioning posed a challenge. Extensive coordination and planning were done to ensure that the modules were delivered to the site in the correct order. Despite this being one of PCL’s first full-scale modular projects, the specialized shipping convoys were successful in transporting the right modules efficiently to their designated locations for swift joining. The project team’s success led to Rogers subsequently awarding similar projects to PCL.
