This theme park renovation project included the demolition of existing structures in the SeaWorld Adventure Park, extensive underground infrastructure, the addition of three amusement rides, and the retheming of the area based on characters from Sesame Street. The project also included the renovation of an existing building to serve as a character staging area, and conversion of an existing picnic structure into a photo opportunity booth.
When two saltwater life support system lines were discovered running through one of the ride’s deep foundation areas, PCL's Special Projects division quickly developed and implemented an action plan. The client asked that the lines not be taken out of service, and limited space made a foundation shift difficult, so the PCL team successfully installed a system of support foundations under the live lines. An inverted pipe support system was anchored into concrete piers spaced approximately three feet apart, which allowed the mat foundation to be placed under the lines and vertical concrete walls to be built within inches of the lines. PCL was able to complete this added work within the original planned schedule.
