The Manluk Centre (Wetaskiwin Regional Aquatics and Fitness) is a world-class, 44,740-square-foot facility home to multiple aquatic features, including a 25-meter, six-lane competition pool, two waterslides, a lazy river, steam room, and a BoardRider surf machine. The second-level fitness facility overlooks the many aquatic features and is equipped with state-of-the-art fitness and weight training equipment. Three additional rooms on the second floor provide space for various bookings and meetings.
The HVAC and perimeter heating system designed and shown in the contract documents could not be tested and maintained without manlifts. The main challenges were based on accessibility, as width and weight restrictions limited the amount of pool deck area where manlifts could be used. PCL worked with all stakeholders to redesign this system as an assembly that is reachable at lower elevations around the perimeter of the building. The focus was on the customer's ability to maintain the facility after turnover, and this proposal would not require shutting down the facility and draining the pools for future maintenance. The owner and designer were pleased with these changes. The work was completed at no extra cost and accelerated the schedule by three weeks.
PCL successfully delivered high-quality craftsmanship safely, while promoting excitement and healthy living. The Manluk Centre is the destination for fun and fitness-related activities in Wetaskiwin.
