The Reach Gallery Museum was one of three major capital projects awarded to PCL by the City of Abbotsford under a design-build contract. The other two — the Abbotsford Community Recreation Centre and the Entertainment & Sports Centre — add to the entertainment and cultural aspects of this vibrant community.
A 20,000-square-foot facility, the museum provides dynamic exhibitions and interactive events telling the Abbotsford community story. The interior space was designed to be open and flexible, featuring a natural polished concrete floor and an open-concept painted ceiling. An innovative design element incorporated a unistrut support system to allow track lighting and exhibit spaces to be custom arranged for each unique exhibit.
Maintaining energy efficiency while providing a stable controlled environment was a priority for the client. In response, the PCL team installed an open loop geothermal radiant heat system with below-grade ducts to supply low-velocity air displacement ventilation. Low-flow plumbing fixtures and light sensors were also used throughout the facility to improve operating efficiency.
