The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA)
represents the entire design and construction industry, and is the only organization that defines, promotes, and teaches the best practices in design-build. It was founded in October 1993 by Preston Haskell, founder and chairman of The Haskell Company, and the first executive director of DBIA.
The San Diego International Airport Terminal 2
Building and Airside Expansion project has received
the DBIA National Award of Merit and the Award of
Excellence in the Aviation category.
Employees from PCL Construction have been
attending and sponsoring the DBIA conference for
the past 13 years.
COMMITMENT TO THE METHOD
By bringing all project team members together in the design phase, the construction design-build
approach helps foster successful partnerships. That is why PCL continues to embrace the design-build delivery method and this year marks PCL’s 13th year as a sponsor of the DBIA Conference.
“I look forward to the DBIA Conference every year to share new ideas and discuss our challenges with design-build in the commercial market,” said Steve Vrabel, PCL’s national director of preconstruction services in the United States. “The conference also allows me to catch up on what’s new with DBIA on a national level and its direction into the future.”
DESIGN-BUILD IN ACTION
“We are very pleased to have this significant project and our design-build team recognized nationally by DBIA,” said Dale Kain, vice president and district manager for PCL’s California Buildings’ operations. “PCL is honored to be counted among DBIA’s award winners.”
The airport expansion received the prestigious LEED® Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council, making it the only commercial airport in the country to receive this rating. It is the first design-build and largest project in the history of the San Diego International Airport.
The project signifies PCL’s long-standing promise of excellence and building success. With over a century of superior client service, PCL is a team player—relied upon by its clients. Honesty, integrity, and respect are core values of the organization.
