The shipping and receiving team at the Arthur J.E Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre used an electronic delivery board system that had limited capabilities — only able to electronically display the delivery calendar. The team needed to manually input each delivery verbally requested by the trades.
As the interior finishes reached the next stage and demand for bookings increased, the team realized that a more advanced system would be required to efficiently and effectively coordinate deliveries and materials.
Job Site Resourcing (JSR) was implemented, giving the shipping and delivery team more control and capability to coordinate the extensive demand for deliveries. JSR allows for all deliveries to be requested and approved electronically, eliminating the constant verbal communication to book deliveries.
The shipping and delivery team used JSR’s mandatory booking questions—like truck size, material type, delivery floor, and equipment needs—to streamline coordination and stay organized. With multiple site resources like skips, gates, and elevators, JSR also helped capture specific restrictions and requirements for each, ensuring efficient scheduling.
JSR has brought significant value to the overall success of the job. The JSR platform encouraged trade partners to stay organized and foresee when they required material to meet scheduled milestones. The change to go entirely electronic with only verbal communication required when coordinating unique deliveries has proven to be the most valuable aspect of the implementation.
JSR has given the entire team the opportunity to schedule deliveries more productively and successfully, which has a direct impact on the field. If trade partners are able to efficiently coordinate material deliveries to the site and the superintendents are able to manage the amount of material arriving on their floors, this helps with maintaining interior schedule milestones.
