Edmonton, Alberta (Sept. 9, 2016) – PCL Construction Management Inc. is proud to celebrate the opening of Rogers Place in the heart of downtown Edmonton’s new ICE District.
An opening ceremony was held in Ford Hall, the main entrance to Rogers Place, with over 900 guests in attendance. The City of Edmonton and the Oilers Entertainment group recognized PCL for its hard work in getting the project to this point after more than 850 days of construction.
At the ceremony Mayor, Don Iveson thanked PCL as “our very own world-class heavyweight, Edmonton- based PCL, and the many subcontractors who built Rogers Place, we could not have asked for a better team. Your commitment to making this facility the very best in North America shows through and through.“
Daryl Katz, Chairman, Oilers Entertainment Group, said thanks to “the team from PCL and the men and women on-site every day who did simply an outstanding job in terms of safety, professionalism, community involvement and of course quality construction.”
PCL’s Chairman Ross Grieve also spoke at the opening. He acknowledged the fantastic performance the entire team accomplished to put in place the vision Mr. Katz provided of an iconic facility and surrounding district that will revitalize Edmonton's downtown and make all Edmontonians proud for generations to come.
Paul Douglas, PCL president and CEO, said, “It’s the talented and dedicated individuals who worked on site and in support of this project who should be extremely proud of what they accomplished during the building of this landmark project.” He added that “our entire PCL family couldn’t be happier that this gem of a facility is right here in our hometown.”
The $613.5 million Rogers Place and related infrastructure boasts 18,651 seats, 1,110,900 square feet of space, the largest true high definition scoreboard in the NHL, expansive concourses with natural light, and an impressive array of food and beverage options.
Rogers Place anchors a major revitalization of Edmonton’s downtown that boasts $5 billion invested in private and public developments, including the new ICE District, which will be Canada’s largest sports and entertainment district.
