Honolulu, HI (February 10, 2026) – Nordic PCL Construction, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has entered the presconstruction phase for the Queens Medical Center West Oahu emergency department expansion.

The current emergency department is approximately 13,000 SF and is the second highest utilized emergency services in Hawaii with the growth in West Oahu. This urgently needed expansion will provide an additional 77,888 SF of emergency and hospitalized patient care space and will be the largest project for the Queen’s Health Systems in over three decades.

The expansion will be built in several phases, and will include the construction of a new 77,800 SF three-story building wing that will feature:

  • A 28,500 square-foot emergency department expansion
  • Two 24-bed patient care units, each measuring 24,500 square feet
  • A 14,000 square-foot central utility plant expansion

The existing emergency department, hospital, and other facilities will remain fully operational during construction. Nordic PCL’s healthcare experience and history of successfully working on projects for the Queen’s Health Systems were key considerations in the selection process.

“This expansion is about meeting West Oahu’s growing needs for critical urgent care that will save lives,” said Glen Kaneshige, Nordic PCL president. “We’re excited to join the Queen’s Medical Center team in the expansion of the emergency department into a modern facility while ensuring their quality services remain uninterrupted during construction.”

Congratulations to Nordic PCL for a great addition to the company’s healthcare portfolio!
