HONOLULU, Hawaii (Oct. 3, 2024) – Nordic PCL Construction, Inc., with over 85 years of building on the Hawaiian Islands, is sponsoring World Wide Walls (formally Pow! Wow! Hawaii) for its Hawaii Walls 2024 campaign. Established in 2010, World Wide Walls is a global festival that brings local and international artists together to create murals across various cities, including Honolulu. The festivals beautify urban landscapes as well as promote cultural exchange, inspire dialogue and contribute to the revitalization of neighborhoods. This year’s initiative, spearheaded by renowned artist Jasper Wong, aims to enrich the community by bridging arts and education.

“This project reflects our core values at Nordic PCL. Not only do we construct buildings but we build community through art,” said Shelley Santo, marketing manager for Nordic PCL. “We are honored to support the educational environments that shape our future leaders and to help integrate art into public spaces and uplift the community.”

Farrington High School, located in Honolulu, recently hosted a volunteer event as part of this initiative with Nordic PCL as a sponsor, where the company supplied essential materials such as ladders, bottled water and lunch. The new murals at the school celebrate its rich heritage and envision a vibrant future for the community, involving many volunteers, including school alumni, to strengthen the bond between the school and its surroundings. The artwork often reflects the school's cultural environment while aligning with the educational themes, creating a connection between the murals and the learning happening inside.

“It was exciting to come together, knowing that our combined efforts would leave a positive impact on the school, especially with the belief that it would inspire the next generation of leaders. I’m hoping that the good vibes we had while painting would spread and cover not just the school walls but the students and staff, as well as the community. It is already uplifting to see some of the artwork from the freeway on my daily commute. Now, these murals serve as daily reminder for me to live each day with Aloha,” said Harrison Potifala, accountant for PCL and alumni of Farrington High School.

The high school’s mural initiative is a highlight of the larger Hawaii Walls 2024 campaign, which will see artists including Satr, Taylor TRBO, Aloha de Mele, Hera of Herakut, Dina Saadi, Bakpak Durden, Lauren YS, Dinoflora, Evah Fan, Dani G, Wooden Waves and Drea create over 40 new murals at three public schools: Farrington High School, Kalihi Kai Elementary and Puuhale Elementary, all based in Honolulu.

“Art has the power to transform both spaces and perspectives,” added Santo. “These murals will bring new energy and inspiration to Farrington High School and its community.”
