GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Oct. 10, 2023) – PCL Construction broke ground on Grand Forks Public School’s (GFPS) long-awaited Career Impact Academy. A joint venture with Community Contractors, the new facility will be a symbol of true educational excellence.

The academy, set to span 55,000 square feet, will transform the former Grand Forks Holiday Inn site into a state-of-the-art career and technical education facility.

The Career Impact Academy is set to deliver career-centric education tailored for regional high school students. Collaborating with esteemed colleges, the academy will offer courses, certifications, and degrees for all age groups. Beyond academics, it will aim to bridge students with businesses for potential job opportunities and elevate staff training standards for local enterprises.

Private-sector employers will be able to interface with learners to foster career exploration and awareness of regional career opportunities. The Career Impact Academy will also provide space for employers to retrain, recertify, or upskill current employees.

“It’s more than just a build for PCL – we are excited to eventually be involved in teaching construction related courses and introduce students to the industry,” said Trent Johnson, PCL’s district manager.

With more than $13 billion in educational projects, PCL’s extensive portfolio spans higher education, K-12 schools, student accommodations, and state-of-the-art research facilities and labs. Notably, in North Dakota, PCL has left a mark on the University of North Dakota's campus, constructing numerous projects to include the Tech Accelerator building, the esteemed School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and most recently the Nistler College of Business.

GFPS’ Career Impact Academy will benefit the entire Grand Forks community and its future of education.
