Lakeside, CA (July 30, 2021) – PCL Construction and design-build partner HED joined the County of San Diego, local officials and community members at a groundbreaking ceremony on July 29, 2021, to commemorate the start of construction of the new 16,800-square-foot Lakeside Branch Library.

“We are excited to partner with HED to design and build a new library for the community of Lakeside,” said Lucas Mallory, area manager for PCL Construction in San Diego. “Many on our teams call surrounding neighborhoods home, and we look forward to delivering a facility that will provide an enriched experience for customers and staff and also serve as a heartbeat in the community for generations to come.”

The new library is designed to meet Zero Net Energy building standards. It features enhanced program elements that include a 2,000-square-foot community room that can be used for classes and other library activities as well as for meeting space used by local organizations and businesses. The project includes designated spaces for all age groups, the latest technology, an outdoor reading area, and other amenities.

“This library is close to my heart,” said Jennette La Quire, principal with HED. “This library replaces the first one I visited as a child. I’m so proud to be contributing to my hometown through this new building and hope that future generations will be empowered and energized as they partake in the features this new Library will offer. We have enjoyed a great collaboration with Manuel Oncina of Atelier Oncina as part of our design team.” She adds that the County’s sustainability commitment aligns with HED’s as a reporting signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment. The project is seeking LEED® Gold Certification and a Living Building Challenge Zero Net Energy petal certification.

Located at 12428 Woodside Avenue in Lakeside, California, the Lakeside Branch Library is expected to be open to the public in the summer of 2022.
