PHOENIX, Ariz. (Nov. 8, 2022) – This past weekend, PCL Construction sponsored and volunteered at Phoenix Children’s Big Dig for Kids event which promotes healing for some of Arizona’s sickest kids. PCL has been involved in this event since its inception in 2016 which has raised nearly $2 million for pediatric cancer research in just six years – $750,000 donated this year alone.

The Big Dig for Kids event gives Phoenix Children’s patients the opportunity to explore, interact and operate heavy machinery. This year, PCL sponsored two booths with construction and water-themed activities and giveaways. PCL’s mascot, Bidwell the beaver was even present to take photos with kids and families. To date, PCL has donated approximately $32,000 to the cause.

Senior vice president of PCL’s civil operation, Mike McKinney, has served on the board of directors for the Big Dig for Kids for six years and this year, he co-chaired the event, helping with operations planning and event set up.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to be involved in the Big Dig for Kids event for the past six years and witness the difference this event alone continues to have on so many children and their families lives,” said McKinney. It’s heartwarming to see these kids who face everyday health battles light up as they put on hard hats and vests, and interact with heavy machinery.”

The Big Dig for Kids Board of Directors have committed to raising $500,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hope Fund – a critical source of funding for the areas of greatest need at Phoenix Children’s. With hope funds, Phoenix Children’s can invest in state-of-the-art technology and equipment, innovative new clinical programs and family centered care.
