SEATTLE, Wash. (March 11, 2026) – PCL Construction Services, Inc. has topped out the steel structure for Amtrak’s new Maintenance & Inspection (M&I) Facility, marking the placement of the final steel beam and an important milestone in the project’s progress at the King Street Coach Yard. This milestone reflects the strong collaboration among PCL, Amtrak and the project’s trade contractors as the facility continues to take shape.
The upgraded M&I facility will support Amtrak’s next generation of passenger service, including maintenance of the new Airo trainsets. Completing the structural frame moves the project closer to delivering a modern, efficient facility that will strengthen Amtrak’s operations in the Pacific Northwest.
To date, construction progress includes:
- Approximately 1.8 million pounds of PEMB steel installed for the M&I superstructure.
- More than 12,500 cubic yards of concrete placed across the M&I Facility and the adjacent parking deck.
- More than 200,000 worker hours completed by PCL and trade contractors since project start.
“These achievements represent the dedication, expertise and craftsmanship of every individual who has contributed to this project,” said Andrew Fernandez, district manager of PCL’s Seattle office. “Reaching this milestone brings us another step closer to delivering a facility that will support Amtrak’s growing fleet, especially as the new Airo fleet begins service in the Pacific Northwest.”
Construction will continue throughout 2026 as the facility moves into its next phases, including architectural, systems installation and interior buildout to prepare the site for advanced rail maintenance operations.
