PCL Construction has been selected by BrightNight, a renewable power company, to build the new facility

PHOENIX, Arizona - February 12, 2026 - PCL Construction has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Pioneer Clean Energy Center in Yuma County, Arizona. The project, which will be owned and operated by BrightNight power, broke ground on February 11 and features a 366-megawatt direct current (MWdc) photovoltaic solar array and a 1,200 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system. With its combined solar generation and advanced battery storage, the Pioneer Clean Energy Center will support grid resiliency and better align peak energy production with peak demand hours across the region.

The Pioneer Clean Energy Center is PCL’s first solar project in Arizona, its first project with BrightNight and the solar division’s first utility‑scale solar‑plus‑storage project in the United States. The facility is expected to be operational in 2027.

“I’m incredibly proud of what this project represents for our team,” said Andrew Moles, vice president and general manager of PCL’s solar division. “The Pioneer Clean Energy Center is an opportunity to bring clean, reliable energy to a region that continues to grow. Every design and construction decision is made to maximize performance and long-term value for the communities we serve.”

PCL’s solar team will self-perform major scopes of work including pile installation, racking, electrical installation, battery foundation work and the installation of more than 619,000 photovoltaic modules. These efforts, supported by local trade contractors, will provide economic benefits and employment opportunities throughout construction.

PCL has been present in Arizona for nearly 40 years through its civil infrastructure operations, and its expansion into Phoenix for its Buildings and Industrial teams reflects a continued investment in the state. This solar project builds on that foundation and advances Arizona’s clean energy future.
