DENVER, Colo. (Dec. 6, 2023) – Ray Torrejon, manager of special projects for PCL Construction, Inc. has been recognized on the 2024 Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mountain States Top Young Professionals list. During his decade at PCL, Torrejon has worked on water infrastructure projects across the U.S. totaling over half a billion dollars. As a project manager, he has excelled in building collaborative teams and working alongside owners, designers and subcontractors to deliver successful projects that support communities.
ENR Mountain States selected 20 individuals under the age of 40 based on their talent, leadership and service in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
"Receiving this award is a true honor. I owe a great deal of gratitude to my extraordinary mentors, who continually encourage me to surpass my own limitations. PCL has provided endless career advancement opportunities for me, including a recent move to Arizona where I've been a part of growing our civil sector," said Torrejon.
From a young age, Torrejon was immersed in construction, learning from his father, a superintendent. His early internships fueled his passion for building. As a leader, Torrejon values mentorship for project success and personal growth. He enjoys teaching and empowering younger team members, guiding them to find their unique path in the industry and become effective problem-solvers.
A dedicated PCL champion and advocate for growth opportunities, Torrejon has moved across the country several times to build and expand the water infrastructure market. Each move has advanced his leadership role, making him a valuable mentor for colleagues encountering similar opportunities.
Torrejon showcases his strong leadership skills beyond a project site. During his tenure at PCL, community giving has become a significant priority. He was key in creating the Colorado Civil division's community initiative, organizing over a dozen events and managing donations. Torrejon’s commitment extended to pro-bono projects like the City of Arvada disc golf course and South Adams High Baseball field upgrades, involving partnerships with clients and local communities, and utilizing resources from ongoing projects for community betterment.
“Ray is a special person and highly valued member of the PCL team,” said Dana Lebeda, area manager for PCL and mentor to Torrejon. “He is dedicated, extremely motivated and has a strong work ethic; however, his greatest asset is his ability to connect with people. Ray has an infectious energy that naturally attracts and draws people to him. He leverages this trait to develop strong connections with project stakeholders, collaborating to deliver superior results for our clients. I am proud to call Ray my good friend and this recognition by ENR as a Top Young Professional is well deserved.”
