SALT LAKE CITY (July 2, 2025) – Salt Lake City’s New Water Reclamation Facility surpassed two million project work hours as the Sundt/PCL joint-venture construction team draws closer to completion.

One of the City’s largest public works projects, Sundt/PCL has been upgrading and expanding the City’s only wastewater treatment plant since 2019. At peak construction, the project reached 400 workers on site. Construction includes the installation of new advanced treatment processes and updating the facility to the current building and seismic codes. Once complete, the facility will improve water quality, reduce odors and increase seismic resilience.

“It takes every member of the team to build a project of this magnitude,” said Manny Diaz, Intermountain regional manager for Sundt’s Water & Wastewater Group. “We are proud of this team’s commitment to the project and each other as we work to deliver this critical infrastructure for Salt Lake City.”

“The commitment of our PCL and Sundt employees working together to achieve this milestone is truly impressive. This is a direct result of the collaboration and dedication shown by every individual on the team. The effort behind this project reflects the best of what can be achieved through true partnership, and I’m incredibly proud of the work being done to deliver lasting benefits to the residents of Salt Lake City,” said PCL’s Civil West District Manager Ankur Talwar.

The New Water Reclamation Facility is built to handle wastewater from more than 364,000 people. This includes people who live in Salt Lake City, people who come to the city for work during the day, and visitors who spend time in the city. The team is pursuing Envision Platinum certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, a nonprofit organization that provides a sustainability framework for public and private civil infrastructure projects.

The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2026.
