I started my PCL journey in May of 2024. It's been a very exciting experience. I started in the industry back in 2014 working for a Florida contractor. Currently I’m the project manager for the State Road 207 Water Reclamation Facility project.
I graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in business management. It's not a traditional path like earning a civil engineering or construction management degree, but I learned many of the same fundamental skills that are critical to a construction project’s success – such as effective leadership practices, being a good communicator, project coordination and financial planning skills.
I've always been somewhat creative and artistic. As a kid I loved drawing buildings, and I've always wanted to build something that gives back to communities. As I got older and learned more about everything that goes into building water and wastewater treatment facilities and the impact they have on the community, it became my way to give back. Being able to have that positive impact on communities is really what started me in this direction and gives purpose to my day-to-day.
I would say the Clearwater Reclaim Water System Booster Pump Stations, a project I worked on prior to PCL. There were two sites. One of them was in the neighborhood I grew up in. Being an assistant project manager at the time, I was on site pretty much daily. I walked the same neighborhood streets that I did as a kid. I spoke to some old neighbors and heard their side of how long they've been asking for this and the needs they've had locally. I think that set my interests and my passion for pursuing a career in this industry, seeing that project from the estimating phase through final completion was very gratifying.
This industry is more than just building pipelines. It's being involved in local communities. It's ensuring people have access to one of life's essentials: clean water. It goes past the job. People have the right to know where their water is coming from and that it's safe. I enjoy dealing with the technical challenges. This industry is rewarding and gives meaning to what I do.
Beyond the impact of the work, I've never worked for a company that fosters teamwork and growth and leadership so much. The culture is collaborative and innovative and a good place for fresh ideas to develop.
On the professional side, I’m involved with the Design Build Institute of America. I volunteered for several years for Big Brothers, Big Sisters and that's something that I've reached out to do more of here in Saint Augustine. My fiancé, Sarah, and I also like to do at least one or two beach cleanups a month.
