The year was 1924 and the San Diego Gaslamp District was building the city’s first downtown theater to showcase motion pictures. Flash forward to today and the historic structure stands as a renovated performing arts venue. Local, national and international performances take place in the remarkable five-story, 1,350-seat chamber.

As a historic structure, it was important for us to ensure the Balboa Theatre met all preservation standards. We restored the exterior and interior ornamental plaster, historic windows and doors and ornamental metal railings. 

The original building included a pair of live waterfalls built into the ornamental plaster walls that we were also able to recondition into working order. 

Along with restoring history, we brought the structure into today’s building standards. From state-of-the-art audio and visual systems, to theater lighting, hoisting, and stage rigging, each addition further advances shows and performances.
