The renovation and reconfiguration of Security Checkpoint E at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport provides the airport’s more than 15 million annual passengers with more efficient security queuing and screening. The new security checkpoint offers six passenger screening lanes so that TSA personnel can more efficiently and securely screen passengers.

As an extension of the Broward County government, the Broward County Aviation department wished to deliver the project while providing benefit to the community. In line with that mission, the County set a goal for inclusion of diverse business entities in the community to meet a participation rate of 14% on the project. To achieve this goal, PCL created an inclusive contracting plan to maximize participation on the project. In working to identify a high number of qualified trades to contribute to the project, PCL ultimately achieved a participation rate of more than 19%.

Throughout the project, the team was able to accommodate the client’s ongoing operations without disruption from construction activities. The project also included new bathrooms, new artistic terrazzo flooring, new carpet, ceilings, lighting and the installation of new elevators, all of which were completed with the high degree of quality expected by the client.
