Nordic PCL Construction is completing the $136-million renovation of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, an Autograph Collection property and Hawaiʻi Island’s most storied resort. Originally opened in 1965, this architectural gem will undergo a transformative, multi-phased renovation that preserves its timeless heritage while introducing elevated amenities and design. The project includes a complete redesign of 156 guest rooms and suites, updates to four signature dining venues—including the iconic Manta restaurant with panoramic views of Kaunaʻoa Bay—construction of a new infinity pool, and the creation of expansive landscaped areas featuring a chef’s garden and a botanical collection of indigenous and endemic species. Throughout the renovation,

Nordic PCL is leveraging its deep expertise in executing large-scale, logistically challenging projects without disrupting day-to-day resort operations. Careful coordination and phased scheduling ensure that guests continue to enjoy the luxury and serenity of the property, while progress advances seamlessly behind the scenes. Interior design is being led by Dallas-based Looney & Associates, with architectural direction from Honolulu’s AHL (Architects Hawaii Ltd.), blending contemporary comfort with the iconic character of the original vision.
