Parrish & Heimbecker Limited (P&H) selected PCL as their design-build partner for a new fertilizer storage and blending facility in Viking, Alberta. This project was the largest of its kind for Parrish and Heimbecker with a key priority being optimal building functionality.

This new facility included a 46,000-ton grain storage elevator, 26,000-ton dry bulk fertilizer shed, all attached by CN Railway with a 150-car loop track that needed to be complete ahead of winter snow fall. However, a late issuance of a wetland permit delayed the project start by two months. Leaning on our agile and solution-provider nature, the team was able to complete the concrete on-time and install the fertilizer equipment on the original planned date.

The new Viking crop input center and grain terminal supports four new north and central Alberta P&H crop input locations and allows for 300 metric tons to be blended or out loaded every hour. The facility also expands the client’s grain marketing services to customers in all north and central Alberta locations.
