Discovery Cove® is a unique animal encounter and resort experience that allows guests to interact with thousands of fish and aquatic animals throughout the park’s stunning habitats. The Grand Reef® features multiple levels of exploration, from shallow waters to deeper swimming adventures, from white sandy beaches and hammocks swaying in the breeze, to snorkeling among canyons inspired by reefs from around the world. When constructing such a unique animal habitat within an operational park, maintaining the safety and health of all species within the park is our clients’ number on priority.

To reduce construction noise from migrating into the operational Discovery Cove®, PCL installed a twenty-foot sound wall between the site and the operating park. This was a designed system using post shores anchored to the ground with acoustical blankets installed on the park side. The blankets were designed to be quickly removed in the event of severe storms. This noise-reducing innovation enabled our team to complete construction of The Grand Reef® without harming any of the animal species within the park.

While respecting the experience of the park’s guests, animals and animal caretakers, PCL completed the construction of the new 875,000-gallon saltwater reef, a shark exhibit with viewing capabilities for both the divers and the non-swimmers, a lion fish exhibit, an eel exhibit, a guest services buildings, and a series of private cabanas. PCL self-performed numerous scopes including all concrete formwork and placement, all rough carpentry and structural timber work.
