“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” is a theme land in Universal Studios parks that brings the famous book series and films to life The attraction has won several Thea Awards, which recognize individuals, projects and technologies in themed attractions and experiences. Following its triumph in Orlando, Universal expanded the Wizarding World to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Beijing and Universal Studios Hollywood, bringing the magic to even more fans around the world.
For the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, the project team completed all carved stucco, faux rockwork and themed retail in Hogsmeade Village, as well as all of the exterior of Hogwarts Castle and interior queues for the feature attraction “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”.
For the lands in Japan, Beijing and Hollywood, the project team took on a similar role for all themed environment scopes for Hogsmeade Village, Hogwarts Castle, and the show set scope for “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”.
While building the Orlando project, the theming team had the opportunity to hand-carve much of the landscape on site. For Japan and Hollywood, over 42,000 components for each park were prefabricated and scenically finished by the theming team in Orlando, and then shipped to the respective locations where local contractors handled installation under supervision from the theming team. This strategy not only streamlined the delivery process but also enhanced the overall value for the client, ensuring consistency of quality, control over the art direction and adherence to a tight schedule.
